MEET THE FARMERS

THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE PRODUCE

Every month, we profile one of our farmers, because behind all of our products are fantastic people who are also committed to sustainable and fresh produce. We wouldn't be where we are without them, and it's our way of sharing their story and success with you, & in their words. Here's our farmer in-profile this month:

IN PROFILE: JEFF SEARS, CATTLE RANCHER, ALBERTA

Our beef is raised on Alberta forages that give a rich taste, consistent quality, and great genetics. This allows our cattle to grow up and live in the wide open spaces of the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, where our climate encourages healthy practices that benifit the livestock.

My kids will be the 5th generation to operate and own our land. We have been in the agriculture business for 110 years in this location of Southwestern Alberta. My operation can background between 5-7000 head. That is a very large statement on the sustainability of our operations.

We are not organic, we follow and exceed the suggested best practices of raising beef in this part of the world. I should say our as my wife is involved as well it is not just me or mine. We are a family operated background yard that takes cattle from 3-600lbs to about 1000 lbs. we do this so the animals have the diet needed to grow frame and not just fat.

After they reach about 1000 lbs, we ship them to a finish lot where they are fed a high percentage of grain in the diet. This is usually barley, but some years drought makes us bring in corn at finish lots.
